So, how does this happen? We naturally produce sweat as our bodies’ way of cooling itself down. When our body temperature rises, our nervous system triggers the sweat glands. In cases of excessive sweating, there is an overactivity of the sweat glands that is not necessarily triggered by physical activity or a rise in body temperature. The exact cause of this medical condition can be linked to hormonal issues or is said to be hereditary in some cases, but the exact cause of it remains unknown. The most common areas it is known to affect includes the palms, soles and underarms. 

Hyperhidrosis can develop at any age, although it usually starts during childhood or soon after puberty. For some, excessive sweating causes a large amount of discomfort and emotional distress and disrupts one’s daily life and activities.

How does the treatment work? 

Anti wrinkle injectables (BTX) is injected into the area to relax the muscles and block the nerves that activate and trigger the sweat glands. This will prohibit the glands from producing excessive amounts of sweat. The treatment is simple to carry out and lasts usually for about 30 minutes in total. The treatment comes with very little downtime and little side effects, that are mostly rare. Some patients experience minimal discomfort or slight bruising at the injection site but this heals with time. Results usually take effect from 2 weeks post treatment and we recommend having treatment once every 3-6 months for long-lasting results. The areas we treat include the underarms, back, palms, and soles of feet and the cost of the treatment usually starts from £550.
